Waiting Sucks!
*Warning, this post contains spoilers
This isn’t a detailed recap so much as a stream of consciousness about the ep this week.
True Blood this week was so good, I’m having a hard time waiting a whole week until it’s on again! This week’s ep was titled, “If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin’?” Which pretty much refers to Jason’s being tied up and used as a chew toy for panthers in the Hot Shot community’s bid to expand their gene pool. This storyline pretty much reflects the way it went down in the books, only with more lurid detail (including a lot of people snacking on raw animals, ick!) leading to Jason’s eventual joining with the shifters as one of their own. Only in this version, it looks like they’re planning on having him mate with every female in the town, down to the seriously underaged (double ick!) This isn’t my favorite storyline as I’m not a big fan of Crystal’s, but she’s at least nicer than she was in the books. Crazy insane, but nicer.
I am still getting a kick out of seeing Bill as the King of Louisiana. Yes, it’s a thin stretch of plot to see him in that position, even with their flashback to explain it, but it’s nice to see him have something to do instead of just mooning over Sookie or disapearing to South America or something. I liked watching him dole out paternal advice to Jessica over her infidelity to Hoyt. It was an interesting move when she decided to just glamour Hoyt into forgetting about her confession and their problems, I’m betting that comes back to bite her in the end. Speaking of them – how creepy is that old nasty babydoll? I can’t wait til they reveal the backstory on that! And how funny is it that Jess gave it to baby Mikey to play with!
I have to say that I’m of two minds on how they’re handling Eric’s amnesia on the show. I kind of like how it unfolded in the books a bit more, with absolute secrecy behing Eric staying with her (Instead of her blabbing to Alcide inside of fifteen minutes – although it was a hoot to see Debbie Pelt all clean and sober playing Susie-homemaker. Does anyone actually think that’ll last?) But I do like Alexander’s portrayal of Eric, especially that little sheepish grin at the very, very end of the ep just after he’d drained Claudine to death. Which was another huge upset! Claudine is dead? And what’s with the fae being all scary monstery? They look more like goblins than faeries to my way of thinking. But back to Eric, it’s an interesting idea keeping him a little wilder and unpredictable with the memory loss, instead of as meek as he was in the book where Sook was concerned. It certainly is keeping Sookie on her toes!
Also strange is the idea of the head witch being possessed into making Eric lose his memory instead of it being her just grubbing for power. It’s an interesting shift, and they’re sure adding a lot of drama by bringing Lafayette and Jesus into the mix, though Tara’s involvement in the storyline seems a little forced. Why isn’t she going back to New Orleans? Because she wants to help Lafayette out of the jam he’s in? What exactly does she think she can do against a thousand year old vampire? I’m pretty sure Pam’s not gonna just forgive and forget about them invading her territory to steal Lala back. It makes me wonder how they’re going to resolve all of this at season’s end.
What did you guys think of the episode? Is True Blood still pumping strong or are they losing their direction?
The Touch – cover art
Okay guys, time to give me your honest opinion again. What do you think of this proposed cover for my book The Touch? It’s a little simpler and more streamlined than the Angel of Mercy one, but still eye catching I think.
The basic blurb is as follows:
Lexi Morgan has always had The Touch; the ability to pick up an object and “see” its past. Doomed to wearing protective gloves at all times, she learned to accept it as equal parts gift and curse. When her brother in law Neil goes missing, she’d rather tell her sister to celebrate than try to help find the jerk. But after her young niece disappears as well, it’s time to put her gift to good use and help track her down; especially when handsome Detective Gabriel Ryan takes over the case. While the Detective seems less than convinced in Lexi’s ability to help him solve the case, he can’t dispute her uncanny ability to pull memories out of simple items. When the investigation leads them to the restless spirits of long dead children, they must work together to keep history from repeating itself before it’s too late.
BTW – how crazy was the season premiere of True Blood? I had to admit, I was a little skeptical with the little detour to fairyland, but I do think the departures they’ve made from the books are interesting and will keep those of us who’ve read them all guessing as to what the hell is coming next. I can’t wait for more!
Goodbye Gray Skies, Now What?
I’ve finally wrapped up my True Blood fanfic Gray Skies Are Gonna Clear Up after 4o chapters and as always, I find myself looking around asking, now what? The short answer is writing, duh, but writing what? I’ve just started another TVD fic Dark Side of the Moon and I’m having a good time playing with Damon and company after a too long hiatus, but I do find that I like flipping back and forth between fics, it helps keep me sharp. I really enjoyed coming up with a tie in for Eric and Rob (original character) and I’m considering a spin off for them that’s either in the past or the future, but I haven’t quite decided what I might do there yet.
I could always start another book, I’ve got another stand alone novel idea all prepped and ready to go. Okay so it’s not fully mapped out, but I have the basic premise in mind. Or I could do a sequel to one of my other four books, each of them can definitely work as part of a series, especially Angel of Mercy which ends on a definite cliffhanger. I am enjoying the lazy pace of posting to fanfic though, I am addicted to the instant feedback for one (hey, it’s been an hour since my last update, where are my reviews?!) and I love, love, love writing Damon, he’s gotta be the most fun to write for, hands down.
I do intend to get back to finishing the Vampire Diaries recaps too, it bothers me that I didn’t finish them, even though everyone’s probably seen them by now. I’ll tackle the next one this weekend, I’ve got them all on Tivo. We’ve also got some private ventures going on, working on setting up an online store of all kinds of interesting, eclectic gifts and that’s taking up some of my time too and on top of that some home remodeling stuff we’ve been putting off for far too long. So… just a little to keep me busy these days.
1st Draft is Done!!!
Okay apart from missing chapter 9 (I can’t wrap my head around whether or not to include it or skip it!). Right now it’s about 77,000 words, and there are some bits I know I need to flesh out more so I should hit 80K easy even without the chapter 9 if I decide to leave it out. So, now it’s revision time, but some of the pressure is off so that will hopefully leave me some more time for fun writing as I’ve been really behind on my True Blood fanfic (it’s been about 2.5 weeks since I updated, I think that’s a new record for me) and I am dying to start another Vampire Diaries fanfic (I seriously have about 6 different ideas spinning around in my head). Only when I was taking a shower today inspiration hit for another book idea… so we’ll see what happens.
Work has been crazy busy lately and all of my writing has taken a hit because of it as I’ve been more braindead when I get home and less productive, but it’s a huge weight off to have the 1st draft done of The Touch and find that it came out alright.
Vacation is coming up all next week and we’ll see if I end up taking a vacation from writing too or if I let myself do some fun writing as relaxation… we’ll see. I just got the new Sookie Stackhouse book to read too so I’m looking forward to delving into that.
Sorry I haven’t updated the Vampire Diaries recap but I just haven’t had the time and based on web traffic I’m not convinced too many people were really following it anyway, so it became lower on the priority list of what to work on. I’ve got all the eps on Tivo, so if I get the time I could still write them out, but right now I’m not making any promises.
Well off to start the first of many rewrites before Justified is on tonight! 10pm on FX, don’t forget to watch!
Crash and Burn

Into Every Life A Little Rain Must Fall
It happens to the best of us but I’ve had a pretty serious derailment for the new book over the past couple of weeks. As I was writing, I had a realization that it was really splitting apart into two books; the story of my MC coming home and dealing with past issues with his family and friends and the ghost hunting storyline. So, I’ve stopped the writing and I’m planning on pulling them apart into two separate books. I haven’t made a whole lot of progress in this respect because I’ve been going through some health issues and diagnostics for that. The good news is I don’t have a brain tumor or stroke, but the bad news is, the search continues to figure out what’s going on with me.
As such, I’ve been taking it easy, not really pushing myself as much as I might normally do with my writing and I’ve just got the one True Blood fanfic going at the moment as well as the Vampire Diaries recap. Hopefully I’ll get some answers soon and I can focus on getting better and moving forward again. I really am looking forward to working on the next Vampire Diaries fic, but for the moment that’s on hold.
In other news, I saw I am Number Four last weekend and it was better than I thought it would be. The main kid wasn’t as annoying as the commercials would have us believe and there was a lot more Timothy Olyphant in it than I was expecting which makes it Olyphantastic!
Oh and don’t forget, Justified is on tonight 10pm on FX!
December Tidings of Joy
Wow this month is just flying by! I’ve enjoyed decompressing a bit from the stress of NaNoWriMo and the pressure to update so often and now I’m trying to wrap up at least one of my fanfics before I start writing a new novel in January. At least I think I’m gonna shoot for starting a new one in January. That might be a bit ambitious, given that I still have some marketing to do with the first three that might tie me up and I actually have zero ideas on what to focus on for my next book. I have no shortage of ideas but I’m having trouble narrowing down what to tackle next. As usual, too many ideas, not enough time!
okay random thought – Just read a trivia fact that Usher likes to set a romantic mood with his own music. How douchey is that? Sorry, will return you to the regularly scheduled blog now…
All that time I’m saving from not having any new tv shows to watch and no recaps to write is less fun than I had hoped. Instead I find myself just wishing it was time for Vampire Diaries, True Blood and Nikita to come back on the air. Is anyone out there watching Nikita? It’s really started to grow on me, I’ll have to think about writing something for them in the future, but for the moment people seem to be voting for another Vampire Diaries fic with a darker Damon, big surprise.
If I don’t end up updating here again in time, let me just wish everyone a Happy Holiday season with lots of hugs and good food and hearts and flowers. Here is our tree!
